November Sees Steep Decline in Passenger Numbers at Harry Reid International Airport

In November, Harry Reid International Airport experienced a significant decrease in monthly passenger numbers, marking the steepest plunge of the year. Despite a 21. 2 percent drop in international arrivals and departures, it appears that the decline was not due to the attendance of the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix.

According to the airport, passenger traffic was down 9. 6 percent from November 2024 to 4. 3 million. This decline was more severe than the previous month of October, when traffic was down 8. 2 percent. It also marked the 10th consecutive month of declining passenger totals in 2025. The last time there was a year-over-year monthly increase was in January, with a minimal growth of 0. 4 percent.

For the year, passenger totals are down 5. 5 percent to 50. 6 million. The December totals are expected to be reported in late January.

Of the total passengers in November, international arrivals and departures saw a decline of 21. 2 percent, with 239,500 passengers. However, the majority of this decline can be attributed to a decrease in Canadian travelers, rather than those from European destinations.

Air Canada experienced a 40 percent decrease in passengers, followed by Porter Airlines at 33. 9 percent, WestJet at 29. 7 percent, and Flair Airlines at 87 percent. Together, these four airlines saw a decrease of 60,752 passengers compared to November of the previous year.

Experts in the tourism industry have speculated that this decline in Canadian travel is due to a boycott against the United States over President Donald Trump’s international tariff policies and comments about making Canada the 51st state.

In terms of European carriers, British Airways saw a slight increase of 0. 2 percent in November, while Virgin Atlantic saw a 1. 4 percent increase, KLM saw a 5 percent increase, and Aer Lingus saw a 9 percent increase. These numbers only reflect nonstop flights to Las Vegas from foreign destinations, so it is possible that Formula One fans arrived via connecting or charter flights.

Domestically, passenger numbers also saw a decline of 8. 8 percent to 4 million in November. The market leader, Southwest Airlines, saw a 3. 4 percent increase in arrivals and departures, with a total of 1. 8 million passengers. Over the course of 11 months, Southwest has seen a 0. 6 percent increase to 20 million passengers.

Among the top five domestic carriers serving Reid, only Southwest and United saw an increase in November. United saw a 7. 9 percent increase, with a total of 382,748 passengers for the month. For the year, United has seen a 3. 3 percent increase to 4 million passengers.

The largest domestic increases in November were seen from Alaska Airlines, with a 45.
