Two candidates are vying for the position of manager at Juneau International Airport, with public interviews and a final decision scheduled for this week. The airport’s board of directors will meet on Friday to evaluate the finalists and select a permanent replacement for Patty Wahto, who retired after 27 years with the airport. In the interim, Dave Palmer, former city manager and airport manager, is filling the position.
The two candidates announced by the City and Borough of Juneau on Monday are Michael Clow and Michael Isaacs. Clow has over 40 years of experience in aviation management, including roles in the U. S. Navy and at airports in Florida, West Virginia, and New York. His resume highlights his expertise in determining operational needs and achieving business goals, as well as his strong focus on safety, security, and customer service.
Isaacs has over 25 years of experience in airport management, including work in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and South Dakota. His resume emphasizes his success in securing air service, overseeing infrastructure development, and maintaining regulatory compliance. He is also praised for his ability to lead airport teams in challenging operational conditions.
Both candidates will participate in public meet-and-greet events and formal interviews with the airport’s board of directors. Clow’s meet-and-greet and interview will take place on Wednesday, while Isaacs’ will be on Thursday. These interviews are open to the public, with only the final portion held in executive session.
The board and its hiring committee will meet on Friday to evaluate the candidates and make a final decision. The interviews and evaluation process will be conducted via Zoom.
Overall, the City and Borough of Juneau are seeking a highly experienced and skilled individual to lead the airport and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders. The public interviews and final decision demonstrate the transparency and thoroughness of the hiring process.
