Travelers at Newark Liberty International Airport faced yet another ground stop on Sunday, resulting in cancellations and long delays. This is just the latest disruption in a series of chaos caused by communication issues and staffing shortages.

While the airport was less crowded compared to last week’s stranded passengers, outages on Friday and Sunday continued to impact travelers’ plans.

Akash Gupta was one of the many affected travelers, experiencing a six-hour delay on his flight to Indianapolis on Saturday. He passed the time by video chatting with his wife and doodling on paper. This was his first time experiencing such a delay and he expressed his discomfort with the situation.

So what should delayed passengers do? According to Sean Cudahy, a senior aviation reporter for The Points Guy, the first step is to look for alternative flights. He advises not waiting for the perfect solution, but to grab any halfway decent option. He also recommends using airline apps or live chat functions for rebooking or exploring more options, as they are often more efficient than waiting in long customer service lines. NBC News aviation analyst John Cox suggests the flight-tracking app Flighty for real-time updates.

Passengers with frequent flyer perks should take advantage of them. Many airlines have dedicated agents for rebooking frequent flyers, making them easier to reach. Cox advises passengers to be polite and understanding, but also to make sure their needs are taken care of and to let the agents move on to help others.
