British startup Global Airlines celebrated a major achievement on May 15, 2025, with the launch of its first transatlantic flight from Glasgow Airport to New York’s JFK International Airport. The airline, founded by James Asquith, aims to bring back the elegance and luxury of travel with its use of the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, registered as 9H-GLOBL.
The inaugural flight, which had a capacity of over 500 passengers, provided a luxurious experience for its approximately 170 travelers, offering amenities such as champagne, caviar, and high-end services. This reflects Global Airlines’ emphasis on comfort and exclusivity.
The A380 used for this flight was previously operated by China Southern Airlines and underwent significant refurbishment before joining Global Airlines’ fleet. Currently, the airline operates under a damp lease agreement with Hi Fly Malta and has plans to expand its network with additional charter flights. This includes a new route from Manchester to New York, set to launch later this month.
Global Airlines’ founder, James Asquith, aims to bring back the “Golden Age of Travel” with his airline’s luxurious offerings and ambitious expansion plans. The use of the A380, known for its spaciousness and advanced technology, sets Global Airlines apart from its competitors in the highly competitive transatlantic market. This launch marks a significant milestone for the airline and its efforts to establish itself as a top player in the industry.
As Global Airlines continues to grow and expand its network, it remains committed to providing a luxurious and exclusive travel experience for its passengers. With its use of the A380 and partnerships with other airlines, the airline is well-positioned to achieve success in the competitive transatlantic market and bring back the glamour of air travel.
