Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) and Norse Atlantic Airways have recently announced the resumption of the airline’s seasonal flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York. The airport, led by CEO Aletta von Massenbach, is excited to welcome back the airline after a brief pause in services.

Seasonal Services

Norse Atlantic Airways first began offering flights from Berlin to New York-JFK in August 2022, with plans to operate year-round. However, in October 2023, the airline shifted to seasonal services, pausing the route until May 2024. The airline then operated regular flights between May 2024 and January 2025, before pausing once again for several months.

Relaxed Journey

According to Flightradar24, Flight 601 from Berlin is scheduled to depart at 19:20 local time and arrive at New York-JFK at 22:00. The airport notes that this evening departure allows for a relaxed journey, with travelers arriving in New York in the evening and being able to start the next day well-rested.

Norse Atlantic will utilize its Boeing 787-9 aircraft to operate the route four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flight 602 has already completed its journey from New York-JFK to Berlin on May 23, with the aircraft registered as LN-FND.

Serving Since August 2022

Norse Atlantic has been serving this route since August 2022, with some breaks in between. In August 2022, the airline launched flights to New York-JFK and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). According to data from Cirium, the airline operated flights between Berlin Brandenburg and New York-JFK from August 2022 to October 2023, and then from May 2024 to January 2025. The airline plans to operate the route from May to September.

Bjørn Tore Larsen, the Founder and CEO of Norse Atlantic, stated that Berlin has been lacking direct transatlantic connectivity for too long. The airline’s competitive fares and direct flights aim to provide a cost-effective option for both local and international businesses, as well as cargo services.

Limited Competition

Cirium data shows that Germany’s flag carrier, Lufthansa, currently has no scheduled flights to or from Berlin Brandenburg Airport in 2025. Eurowings, Lufthansa Group’s low-cost carrier, is ranked second in terms of scheduled departing seats, but the airport’s long-haul network is still limited.

United States Services

Since the airport’s opening in 2020, the only other airlines offering flights between Berlin and New York are Delta Air Lines and United Airlines. United Airlines operates flights to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), while Delta Air Lines operates flights to New York-JFK.
