New Partnership Announced Between China Eastern Airlines and New Terminal One at JFK Airport

New York John F. Kennedy International Airport and Shanghai’s China Eastern Airlines have formed a strategic partnership, with the airline joining the growing list of international carriers selecting the New Terminal One as their preferred partner. The terminal, which is a key part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport, will provide travelers with a world-class experience and seamless access to one of Asia’s most important financial and cultural hubs.

China Eastern Airlines, a member of the SkyTeam alliance, currently operates an extensive network connecting Shanghai to 256 destinations in 37 countries. The airline, which is headquartered in Shanghai, will continue to offer nonstop service between Shanghai and New York from the new terminal, located at JFK’s south side. This partnership further solidifies the New Terminal One’s reputation as the largest and most modern terminal at JFK.

“We are delighted to be China Eastern Airlines’ long-term strategic partner as they continue to expand in New York City,” said Jennifer Aument, CEO of The New Terminal One. “Their commitment to exceptional service aligns with our vision to transform the international travel experience at JFK. We look forward to working together to create a premier gateway between New York City and Shanghai.

The New Terminal One, set to open its first gates in 2026, will be JFK’s largest terminal upon completion. The state-of-the-art facility will feature cutting-edge technology, modern amenities, elevated retail and dining options, and sustainable design to enhance operational efficiency and passenger comfort.

China Eastern Airlines is the sixth member of SkyTeam to select the New Terminal One as its new home at JFK, joining leading carriers Air France, KLM, Korean Air, SAS, and China Airlines. This growing community of airlines, which includes Etihad, LOT Polish Airlines, EVA Air, Air Serbia, Neos, Philippine Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air New Zealand, Royal Air Maroc, Air China, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways, and EGYPTAIR, will contribute to the terminal’s goal of obtaining a Top 5 Skytrax ranking.

Construction of the New Terminal One is taking place in phases, with full completion expected in 2030. The first phase, including the arrivals and departures halls and 14 new gates, is scheduled to open in 2026. Once completed, the terminal will span 2. 6 million square feet and have a total of 23 gates, making it the largest at JFK and nearly the same size as LaGuardia Airport’s two new terminals combined.

The New Terminal One consortium, led by Ferrovial, JLC Infrastructure, Ullico, and Carlyle, is committed to using union labor and promoting local inclusion and labor participation.
