Equipment Outage Causes Ground Stop at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport on Mother’s Day
On Sunday, May 11, 2025, a ground stop was put in place at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport due to an equipment outage. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued the ground stop at 10:40 a.m. ET on Mother’s Day, affecting flights scheduled to depart from East Coast area airports bound for Atlanta.
Flights Affected and Technicians Work to Resolve Issue
According to Atlanta News First, the ground stop was implemented for departures to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport due to the equipment outage. Meanwhile, arrivals were experiencing delays due to a runway equipment issue. Technicians were working to fix the problem and get flights back on schedule.
Ground Stop Lifted, But Delays Continue
The ground stop was lifted around 12:30 p.m., but departures continued to be delayed by 20 minutes. The FAA’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center implemented a traffic management program at the airport, stating that there may be delays for departing flights due to the traffic management program and the earlier ground stop.
