
United Airlines: Expanding Overseas Flight Options in 2025
With an impressive 800 daily flights to 147 overseas locations, United Airlines is the top carrier in the world for international travel. In the upcoming summer season, United will be the only American airline to offer flights to 40 previously unserved destinations, including Porto, Ponta Delgada, Madeira Island, and Faro, making it the leading US airline with five destinations in Portugal.

Portugal: A Growing Tourist Destination
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, Portugal’s tourism industry had a record-breaking year in 2024, with continued growth expected in 2025. United Airlines is taking note of this trend and has announced an expansion of its service to several overseas locations. This expansion follows the successful launch of their “Good Leads The Way” campaign in October 2024.
Increased Service to Portugal: A Promising Move
Starting on May 16, United Airlines will offer four weekly flights to Faro and three weekly flights to Madeira Island, adding to their existing service to Lisbon from Newark/New York and Washington/Dulles. Both new seasonal trips will operate out of United’s hub at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Unmatched Travel Options: United Airlines
United Airlines continues to provide customers with unparalleled international travel options. The new flights to Faro will offer direct access to its stunning beaches, seaside cliffs, thermal springs, and renowned golf courses. Madeira Island, known for its tropical beauty, high cliffs, seaside towns, waterfalls, and beaches, will also be easily accessible to United customers.

Expansion Beyond Portugal
Aside from Portugal, United is set to expand its network in 2025 by adding several other new destinations. Starting July 11, United will be the only US airline to offer direct service to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, known for its modern skyline, historic harbor, and breathtaking nature. The new year-round service from Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) will provide a convenient one-stop option for American travelers.
Adventurous Destinations: United Airlines
United Airlines will also offer flights to Nuuk, the capital city of Greenland, starting June 14, providing customers with direct access to arctic adventures. With the start of seasonal nonstop service from Tokyo Narita on May 1, United will be the sole American airline to fly to Mongolia, a country known for its reindeer sleigh rides, camel racing, and stunning scenery.
