Beta Technologies, an electric aviation company based in South Burlington, Vermont, has filed documents with the U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch its initial public offering (IPO). The company aims to raise up to $825 million by offering 25 million shares at a price range of $27 to $33 each. With a potential top value of $7. 2 billion, this IPO would make Beta one of the few publicly traded companies in the state.

The company plans to trade under the ticker symbol “BETA” on the New York Stock Exchange. This move comes amidst a government shutdown that has impacted the SEC, with most of its employees on furlough. However, the agency has released guidance allowing IPOs to proceed.

Established in 2017, Beta is focused on developing small electric and hybrid-electric aircraft with the capability of vertical takeoff. The company is aiming to obtain Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for its prototype, Alia, by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

However, producing these aircraft is expensive, and Beta has yet to turn a profit. The company reported net losses of $176 million in 2023 and $276 million last year. In the first half of 2025, Beta generated $15 million in revenue but also reported losses of $159 million.

Despite these financial challenges, Beta has been successful in raising funds from private investors, including Amazon and GE Aerospace, totaling more than $1 billion in recent years. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs are the lead underwriters for Beta’s IPO, and founder and CEO Kyle Clark will remain the controlling shareholder after the offering.

When asked for comment, company representatives were not immediately available. This IPO marks a significant milestone for Beta Technologies and its plans to revolutionize the aviation industry with its electric and hybrid-electric aircraft.
