New Partnership Brings Exciting Changes to Washington Dulles International Airport

Avolta, a leading travel retail and food & beverage company, has recently been awarded two 10-year contracts at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). These contracts will bring over 700 sqm of new retail and dining space to the airport, specifically in the new 14-gate Concourse E. The new spaces are expected to open in late 2026.

Steve Johnson, President and CEO of Avolta North America, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “With Concourse E, we have the opportunity to reimagine what the passenger experience at Dulles International can be. We’ve crafted a travel retail and F&B offering we are proud of – one that puts the traveler at the center by creating a journey that is enjoyable and memorable. ” Avolta has partnered with MWAA, Fraport USA, and local small businesses to bring this vision to life.

Hudson, a subsidiary of Avolta, will be opening five new locations at IAD, featuring locally inspired stores that are exclusive to the airport and showcase local businesses. In addition to traditional retail options, Avolta is introducing a hybrid concept that combines travel retail and F&B. This will include a collection of automated retail points offering 24-hour dining options from popular US brands, allowing customers to satisfy their appetite at any time of day.

Complementing the retail offerings, Avolta’s HMSHost will introduce local craft spirit company MurLarkey Distilled Spirits through a new bar and restaurant. The company is dedicated to integrating premium local brands into the mix to drive differentiation and growth.

Chryssa Westerlund, Airports Authority Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer, shared her excitement for the new partnership, stating, “The new Concourse E will enhance the entire travel experience at Dulles International and is part of the multi-year Dulles Next airport construction program to accommodate future growth. This next-generation concourse represents our commitment to innovation, customer service, and showcasing the best of the Washington region. We welcome the partnership with Avolta and Fraport USA that will bring travelers new travel retail and dining experiences that reflect the spirit of our community.

In addition to new retail and dining options, the partnership will also bring a focus on digital engagement. Customers will be able to utilize in-store technology, such as self-checkout, and take advantage of the Club Avolta loyalty program, which offers exclusive offers, rewards, and cross-promotions.
