American Airlines, a member of the Oneworld alliance, has recently launched new flights between Charlotte and Athens on June 5th.
This new route, spanning a distance of 8,815 km, will be serviced daily by a 777-200 aircraft and is currently the only option for travelers.
The outbound flight, AA326, departs from Charlotte at 18:45 local time and arrives in Athens the following day at 12:05 local time. The return flight, AA325, departs Athens at 12:00 and lands in North Carolina at 16:45.
According to Jose A. Freig, American’s Vice President of International and Inflight Dining, there has been a growing trend among American travelers for European getaways that offer cultural, culinary, or adventure experiences. As such, Athens remains a key destination in American’s network, providing customers in Greece with access to over 145 destinations in the United States.
Additionally, the Director of Communications and Marketing of Athens Airport, Ms. Ioanna Papadopoulou, states that the new route not only enhances connectivity but also offers more options for international passengers with American Airlines’ leading product. This is on top of the already successful summer connections with Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia.
The US market has displayed significant growth for Athens, consistently ranking among the top positions of its most important and popular markets, according to Papadopoulou.
In terms of the US carriers operating flights between the US and Athens, Delta holds the top spot with 34 weekly flights and over 9,500 seats per week in each direction. Following closely behind is American with 28 weekly flights and 7,098 seats, and United with 24 weekly flights and 6,654 seats per week. In total, there are 103 weekly departures connecting Athens to 9 American cities during the 2025 summer season, with 5 carriers in operation (American, Delta, United, Norse, and Emirates).
