American Airlines has announced that it will resume its flights from New York to Israel on March 28, 2026. The airline has stated that ticket sales for these flights will open on Monday, October 27, 2025.

This comes after a halt in service to Israel due to the outbreak of war in October 2023. Upon its return in the spring, American Airlines will join United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, El Al, and Arkia in offering direct flights between Tel Aviv and New York. The flights will operate daily and will use the wide-body Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

Israel’s aviation industry is currently experiencing a recovery after a prolonged crisis. During the upcoming Hanukkah holiday, the number of airlines operating from Ben-Gurion Airport is expected to double compared to last year. Additionally, post-war airfare prices have been reviewed and there is growing competition among airlines on short- and medium-haul routes.

Some of the most popular destinations from Ben-Gurion, such as Larnaca, Athens, and Budapest, are currently being offered at very competitive prices. For example, El Al is offering flights to Larnaca for $84, Aegean to Athens for $89, and Wizz Air to Budapest for $136. Wizz Air is also offering flights to London for $145. However, prices for direct flights to New York and Bangkok have not yet returned to pre-war levels and currently start around $700.

Yaniv Lennis, the founder of the travel deals website Secret Flights, spoke to ynet earlier this week, before American Airlines’ announcement, stating that “the return of U. S. carriers United and Delta to Ben-Gurion, along with future routes to Washington and Chicago, has brought a significant shift to the direct flights market to the U. S. As a result, direct flights to New York in November can now be found for around $700, which is a competitive price. This competition on North American routes is beneficial for the Israeli consumer.
