American Airlines Launches Nonstop Service from Miami to Maracaibo, Venezuela
American Airlines has recently announced the launch of nonstop flights between Miami and Maracaibo, Venezuela. This new route marks the carrier’s second connection to the country and is expected to operate daily using Embraer E175 aircraft. Flights will depart from La Chinita International Airport, located south of Maracaibo.
This new service comes after American Airlines resumed flights between Miami and Caracas in April, reestablishing the air link between the U. S. and Venezuela. In 2019, the federal government had banned passenger and cargo flights to and from Venezuela due to the country’s economic and political instability. However, this ban was reversed in January following the capture and extradition of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Since then, relations between the two governments have improved.
Unfortunately, American’s service to Caracas has been suspended since June 24th, due to two earthquakes that caused widespread damage in northwestern and central Venezuela. The airline has stated that flights will resume once the airport in Caracas reopens for commercial traffic.
On a positive note, United has announced plans to resume nonstop service between Houston Bush and Caracas next month. Additionally, JetBlue has also expressed intentions to connect Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Caracas, although a start date has not been announced.
This new nonstop service from Miami to Maracaibo is a significant step for American Airlines in expanding their presence in South America. With the resumption of flights to Caracas and the launch of this new route, the carrier is demonstrating their commitment to providing convenient and efficient travel options for their customers. As the political and economic situation in Venezuela continues to improve, it is likely that more airlines will resume or expand their services to the country.
