Delta Airlines: The Largest Operator of Airbus A330neos

Delta Airlines holds the title for the largest fleet of Airbus A330neos, with all 39 of their current A330-900neos in operation. These aircraft allow Delta to fly to five continents from their major hubs across the United States. The A330neo boasts new engines, wings, and various other improvements, making it a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the A330ceo. According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, the data below outlines the routes flown by Delta’s A330neos in November.

The A330neo is similar to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, catering to the mid-sized widebody market for long-haul but thinner routes that do not require larger aircraft like the A350 or Boeing 777. While Delta is a large airline, its hubs are scattered, resulting in thinner routes compared to major hubs like London Heathrow or Dubai. Therefore, mid-sized or larger widebody aircraft, such as the A350, are better suited to Delta’s business model, rather than extra-large aircraft like the A380 or 777X.

Delta’s Fleet of Airbus A330neos

Delta Airlines currently operates 39 A330-900s, with 37 in operation and two in storage for routine maintenance. The average age of their fleet, according to Planespotters. net, is 5. 4 years. In addition to their A330neos, Delta also has a fleet of 81 A330s, including 11 A330-200s and 31 A330-300s.

The A330neo family consists of two variants: the A330-800neo and the A330-900neo. The A330-800 has a smaller passenger capacity but a longer advertised range of 8,100 nautical miles compared to the A330-900neo’s range of 7,350 nautical miles. However, in practice, the A330neo is considered a single-variant aircraft, as the A330-800neo has not been successful in sales. Most airlines prefer the greater seating capacity of the A330-900 over the longer range of the A330-800.

While there have been over 430 A330 orders, only eight have been for the A330-800. Hawaiian Airlines initially ordered the A330-800 but later switched to the 787-9, which is now operated by Alaska Airlines. Delta’s A330neos are all A330-900s.

Delta’s A330neo Configuration

Delta’s A330neos have a configuration of 29 Delta One business class seats, staggered in a 1-2-1 layout. These Thompson Aero Vantage seats offer a seat width of 22 inches and an 18. 5-inch touch screen.
