Expansion of Partnership between Two Global Companies

In 2012, a partnership was formed between two prominent companies to support the international growth of a mobility and delivery group. With Uber now operating in over 70 countries across six continents, the company is increasingly reliant on Adyen’s unified platform to optimize its payment performance and offer local payment methods.

Expanding Geographic Reach

As a result of this successful partnership, Uber and Adyen have announced an expansion of their collaboration, extending their services to new territories such as the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, and the Caribbean. They will also be improving transaction processing as a local merchant in key markets like Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, and Australia. This expansion will primarily focus on enhancing acceptance rates and reducing the costs associated with cross-border transactions.

A Shared Commitment to Global Scale

Trevor Nies, SVP Global Head of Digital at Adyen, expressed the company’s commitment to achieving global scale with Uber. This partnership has been ongoing for over a decade and has already shown impressive results in 40 key markets, including the US, UK, and Brazil. Adyen remains dedicated to enhancing Uber’s payments experience, from offering new payment methods to pioneering new business lines.

Adyen’s Checkout API for Faster Integration

To better cater to the payment preferences of users across different markets, Uber will be utilizing Adyen’s Checkout API. This will enable the quick integration of payment methods with high local adoption rates, such as Pix in Brazil, Afterpay in Australia, and WeChat Pay for travelers using Uber’s WeChat mini-program. The goal is to improve conversion rates throughout the customer journey.

A Reliable and Innovative Payment Platform

For Uber, a reliable and innovative payment platform is crucial for its global growth. Therefore, the partnership with Adyen is seen as a key factor in achieving this goal. By continuing and expanding their collaboration, Uber can support its growth and seamlessly integrate new payment methods. Karl Hébert, Vice President of Global Commerce at Uber, expressed excitement about leveraging Adyen’s technology to realize the full potential of their ongoing innovation and expansion into new business areas.

Innovative Uber Kiosks

In December 2025, Uber and Adyen unveiled a new innovation – Uber kiosks integrated with Adyen terminals. These kiosks allow users to book rides without a smartphone, making it easier for travelers without access to the Uber app. The first kiosk was deployed at Terminal C in LaGuardia Airport (New York), with plans for further installations in international airports, hotels, and ports.

Continued Collaboration for Future Growth

The expansion of this partnership between Uber and Adyen demonstrates their shared commitment to global scale and innovation. By leveraging Adyen’s technology and payment platform, Uber is well-positioned to continue its growth and expansion into new territories and business areas. This collaboration is a testament to the companies’ dedication to providing a seamless and convenient experience for their customers worldwide.
