American Airlines has introduced a newly retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER on a flight from New York to Argentina. The aircraft boasts 70 Flagship Suite business-class seats with privacy doors, 44 premium economy seats, and 30 extra-legroom Main Cabin Extra seats. In addition, there are 186 standard economy seats, allowing a total of 330 passengers to be carried.
Nat Pieper, American’s chief commercial officer, expressed excitement about the new Flagship aircraft, stating, “Our Flagship aircraft represents the next evolution of premium travel at American. ” The Flagship Suite on the 777-300ER includes sliding privacy doors, extra storage, and a chaise lounge seating position. Passengers in this cabin also receive a mattress pad, a dual-sided cool-touch pillow, and an amenity kit.
Travelers in the Flagship cabin can expect priority check-in, security, boarding, and baggage handling, as well as access to American’s Flagship lounges where available. On board, they can enjoy multicourse dining and updated inflight entertainment.
Premium economy seats on the newly retrofitted aircraft are equipped with wireless charging and USB-A and USB-C power. All passengers on the 777-300ER now have access to high-speed Wi-Fi, with complimentary access planned for AAdvantage members.
American has already introduced the Flagship Suite product on its newly delivered Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A321XLRs. The airline plans to retrofit all 20 of its 777-300ERs by the end of 2027.
Currently, American uses the 777-300ER on long-haul routes to destinations like Sydney, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, London, and São Paulo. The first retrofitted aircraft began service on Wednesday between New York-JFK and Buenos Aires.
With the introduction of the new Flagship Suite, American will discontinue its Flagship First product, which is currently the only long-haul international first-class product offered by a U. S. airline. Starting November 19, the airline will stop selling Flagship First on its 777-300ERs. However, the product will remain available on select transcontinental flights for a few months before being phased out completely by March 28, 2027, as more A321XLRs enter service.
