Frontier Airlines has recently announced that it has selected SpaceX’s Starlink as its in-flight wireless internet service provider. This makes Frontier the latest U. S. airline to partner with Starlink, joining other major carriers such as United, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Southwest.

According to Frontier, Starlink’s high-speed and low-latency offering will allow passengers to stream high-definition content, play games, and work on their devices during the flight just as they would on the ground. Additionally, the service will also provide gate-to-gate connectivity for the airline’s pilots, flight attendants, maintenance teams, and ground operations workers.

The airline is planning to equip its first Starlink-enabled aircraft in early 2027, making it the first carrier in the U. S. to use the new system managed directly by Starlink. This decision was made as part of Frontier’s ongoing efforts to invest in products and services that enhance the customer experience. Jimmy Dempsey, the CEO of Frontier, stated in a news release that Starlink will transform the in-flight experience for customers, allowing them to work, stream, browse, and stay connected throughout their journey.

Frontier is majority-owned by private equity firm Indigo Partners, which also owns other airlines such as Wizz Air, Volaris, JetSmart, and Cebu Pacific. Indigo’s portfolio airlines will also be getting connected to Starlink, with over 1,000 aircraft set to have Starlink antennas installed.

The partnership with Starlink is another example of Frontier’s commitment to offering the lowest fares while evolving the travel experience. It also aligns with the airline’s goal of investing in products and services that matter most to its customers.

It is worth noting that Delta, another major U. S. carrier, has chosen to partner with Starlink’s competitor, Amazon Leo, for its in-flight Wi-Fi service. However, with the majority of major carriers opting for Starlink, it is clear that the company is quickly becoming a leading provider for in-flight connectivity in the U. S. market.
