American Airlines Cargo Expands International Widebody Operations for Busy Summer Shipping Season
As the summer shipping season approaches, American Airlines Cargo is gearing up to meet the increasing demand by expanding its international widebody operations. The carrier plans to operate up to 186 international widebody flights per day during peak summer operations, providing enhanced lift and connectivity for freight customers worldwide.
Between June and August, American will offer approximately 4,400 monthly widebody flights between the United States and Europe, solidifying its position as a leading carrier across the Atlantic. London Heathrow Airport (LHR) will experience the largest cargo growth this season with service increasing to 21 daily departures. This will provide direct connections to key U. S. gateways and additional cargo opportunities across the airline’s domestic network.
The summer schedule also includes new and expanded service to various European markets. American will add or expand routes such as Athens (ATH) to Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Budapest (BUD) to Philadelphia (PHL), Prague (PRG) to Philadelphia, Zurich (ZRH) to DFW, Milan (MXP) to Miami (MIA), and Edinburgh (EDI) to New York (JFK). The EDI-JFK route will be operated using the new A321XLR. There will also be an increase in widebody flights across Germany, with daily service from Frankfurt (FRA) to both Charlotte (CLT) and DFW, as well as daily operations from Munich (MUC) to CLT. This will strengthen the network and support cargo flows throughout Central Europe.
In Latin America, American is expanding its widebody capacity to meet strong seasonal demand. There will be increased service from Buenos Aires (EZE) to DFW, providing more access for cargo between South America and American’s central U. S. hub. This will create additional connection opportunities to domestic and international destinations across the network.
Domestically, American will have a robust summer operation centered around its hub at DFW, with over 6,200 total domestic departures on peak summer days. There will also be widebody service from Honolulu (HNL) and Kahului (OGG) to DFW, improving connectivity from the Pacific to the mainland U. S. and offering more options for cargo to move efficiently through the carrier’s domestic system.
Roger Samways, Vice President of Commercial for American Airlines Cargo, stated, “Our summer widebody schedule demonstrates our commitment to providing reliable capacity where our customers need it most. With expanded trans-Atlantic flights, new international routes, and strong domestic connectivity, we are well-equipped to support global supply chains throughout the summer season.
