The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been active in recent days, issuing warnings and intervening in airline operations. On Sunday, the FAA issued multiple ground stops at major hubs, including Delta Air Lines’ hubs in New York, due to snowy weather. This resulted in hundreds of flight cancellations and delays. In addition to weather-related disruptions, a mechanical issue on a United Airlines flight arriving in Orlando caused a ground delay at the airport.

The United Airlines flight, UA2323, was landing from Chicago at Orlando International Airport on Sunday when it experienced a mechanical failure, causing it to lose its nose wheel on the taxiway. Despite the scary incident, all 200 passengers and six crew members on board safely evacuated the aircraft. The plane was left on the taxiway while passengers were transported to the terminal.

The cause of the mechanical issue is still under investigation, and it is unclear whether the strong winds or the aircraft itself were to blame. United Airlines has commended its crew for their professionalism and collaboration with the FAA during the incident.

Following the incident, a ground delay was issued at Orlando International Airport, causing delays for flights in and out of the airport. Both United Airlines and the airport issued statements, stating that there were no reported injuries and that passengers were being transported to the terminal by bus.

The weather was also a factor in the delays, as Orlando was experiencing cold, rainy conditions with strong winds on Sunday. High wind warnings were in effect for several hours.

The incident caused an increase in delays at Orlando International Airport, with the hub having the fourth-most delays among U. S. airports for departing flights. It also had the second-most delays for arriving flights, attributed to the United Airlines incident.

Overall, there were 6,874 delays across the U. S. on Sunday, with United Airlines having 653 delays. Delta Air Lines also faced disruptions due to ground stops at its New York hubs.

Despite the weather-related disruptions, Orlando International Airport managed to keep cancellations to a minimum, with only 12 flights canceled in total. This is considered a positive outcome given the disruptions caused by the United Airlines incident.
