Johnson City’s Victory Lofts Still Searching for Commercial Tenant
It has been almost three years since the completion of the Victory Lofts, a residential complex built by Paulus Development in the old Endicott Johnson shoe factory in Johnson City. While the 156-unit apartment portion of the project has been successful, the promised 7,500 square feet of commercial space on the fifth floor remains vacant. Despite the developer’s initial plans for the space, no tenants or potential uses have been announced.
Property Owner Convicted of 50 Code Violations in Binghamton
Philip Costa, one of the owners of a blighted downtown Binghamton building, was recently found guilty of 50 misdemeanor code violations in a criminal trial. The building, located at 263 Washington Street, has been vacant for over a decade. Costa, from Wallkill, will be sentenced on January 14.
New Stores Opening in Former Binghamton Business Sites
Two former business sites in Binghamton will soon be getting new life. Tony Singh, a Vestal resident, purchased the Main Street property where Binghamton Fluorescent Company had operated for over 40 years. He plans to open a convenience store and gas station there. Additionally, a new store is expected to open on Leroy Street, where Cavanaugh’s Grocery & Deli had operated for many years. The 1,100-square-foot space is being renovated and will likely open next month.
Delta Ending Service to Binghamton Airport
Binghamton’s Greater Binghamton Airport will soon lose its only scheduled commercial air service. Delta Air Lines has announced that they will end their daily flight to Detroit on February 14. County officials are actively working to re-establish passenger service with multiple airlines, with the support of state, local, and federal partners.
New Boxing and Fitness Club Opens in Downtown Binghamton
State Street Boxing and Fitness, a new 3,000-square-foot facility, has opened in the lower level of a State Street building in downtown Binghamton. Head coach Shafi Mumin is excited to provide a positive activity for young people in the area. The club is open Monday through Friday and offers personal training on weekends.
Falling Concrete in Binghamton Garage Damages Government Vehicle
A U. S. government vehicle parked in Binghamton’s State Street garage sustained damage when a piece of falling concrete hit it. This is not the first time that falling concrete has been an issue at the aging parking facility.
