Porter Airlines Expands U. S.
In 2025, major airlines in Canada have made the decision to decrease U. S. flights, with WestJet cutting popular routes to destinations such as Orlando, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Air Canada has also reduced U. S. flights, but Porter Airlines has taken a different approach by increasing connectivity to the United States, including routes beyond major Canadian hubs in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.
New Routes Launched from John C.
Porter Airlines has launched new flights from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, the first U. S. routes from this airport. The carrier had previously expanded in Hamilton with the launch of domestic routes to Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, and Vancouver in June. Now, they have added flights to popular U. S. destinations such as Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, with plans to operate three times a week.
Mark E. Gale, CEO and director of aviation at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, expressed excitement about the addition, as Canadians are the top international market at the hub. He said, “This seasonal route will provide more flight options for our guests during the peak winter/spring travel season.
Expansion to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta
Along with their U. S. expansion, Porter Airlines is also adding flights to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. These flights will launch in December, just in time for the holidays. The Cancun flight will have four departures per week, while the Puerto Vallarta route will be offered twice a week.

– Halifax (YHZ): 7x per week
– Cancun (CUN): 4x per week
– Puerto Vallarta (PVR): 2x per week
– Orlando (MCO): 3x per week
– Fort Lauderdale (FLL): 3x per week
Unique Approach to Flight Additions
Porter Airlines continues to take a unique approach to flight additions, as most airlines in Canada have decreased service to the United States. Despite this trend, Porter has added new routes to key hubs in America, including Phoenix, San Diego, and New York. They have also increased service to Las Vegas and Fort Lauderdale.
Porter Airlines Views New York as Key Long-Term Market
While other airlines have decreased U. S. travel, Porter Airlines sees New York as a key long-term market and has observed an overall increase in U. S. travel on their flights. They stated, “There is still an overall increase in U. S. travel on Porter flights . this is a dynamic environment and what happens in the coming months is evolving.
