Greece’s Plan for Sustainable Infrastructure: A Discussion at the Capital Link Forum
On Monday, December 8, 2025, at the annual Capital Link Invest in Greece Forum in New York, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas met with Srinivas Bommidala, Business Chairman – Energy & International Airports of India’s GMR Group, to discuss Greece’s strategic approach to infrastructure. Their conversation focused on sustainable development, international competitiveness, and investment attraction.
Speaking at the forum, Dimas highlighted Greece’s current state, stating that the country is stronger, more stable, and more confident than it has been in the past two decades. He emphasized that Greece’s fiscal, economic, and institutional transformation is evident in the data and has generated significant interest from international investors. “Today, Greece represents reliability and opportunity,” he declared.
Dimas outlined Greece’s plans to utilize favorable conditions and implement the largest infrastructure program in its modern history. This initiative will combine national resources, European Union funds, financing from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), and private capital through public-private partnerships (PPPs). The ultimate goal is to modernize the country, improve connectivity, and position Greece as a hub for logistics and energy.
The minister also noted that several crucial projects are already underway as part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). These projects will strengthen Greece’s connectivity with the Western Balkans, Southeastern Europe, and Black Sea markets. Some notable projects include the Patra-Pyrgos Highway, the E65 Motorway, the Northern Road Axis of Crete, expansions of the Athens and Thessaloniki metro systems, the Elevated Rapid Transit Avenue in Thessaloniki, and the new Heraklion Airport.
Dimas highlighted the importance of sustainability and resilience, particularly for critical infrastructure. These priorities will ensure that Greece can address the impacts of climate change and withstand future challenges. “Greece is no longer a story of potential; it is a story of performance,” he stated, inviting the international investment community to participate in the country’s next chapter.
In summary, Greece has made significant progress in its transformation, and its infrastructure plans are well underway. With a strong focus on sustainability and resilience, the country is attracting international investors and positioning itself as a hub for logistics and energy. As Minister Dimas stated, “Be a part of this next chapter” and join Greece’s journey towards a more modern and connected future.
