A travel vlogger from Wales recently took on a unique challenge to book flights with two of America’s lowest-rated airlines, Frontier and Spirit, to see if the negative reviews were accurate. Simon Wilson, known for his travel-focused YouTube channel, decided to document his entire journey to show his viewers the truth behind these budget airlines.
Despite the popularity, quality, and price of airlines varying, most people tend to choose the cheapest option rather than considering reviews. With this in mind, Simon set out to test the reputation of these two airlines that have accumulated a string of one-star reviews online.
Starting his journey at Miami airport, Simon shared that his first flight to Atlanta with Frontier Airlines cost him $134 and was met with a seemingly endless list of negative reviews. However, things took a turn for the better when Simon was pleasantly surprised by an “amazing” staff member who upgraded his seat to an exit row for free. He then boarded the “rammed” plane and struck up conversations with fellow passengers, expressing his admiration for Frontier.
During the flight, Simon purchased two bottles of water and two small tubs of Pringles for a steep price of $18. 56. Despite the cost, he was still impressed with the airline’s service and the overall experience. Even when speaking with a cabin crew member, Simon mentioned the bad reviews but still praised the airline.
After landing, one of the passengers stated they would rate the journey a “10 out of 10” and continued to assess Frontier on a “case by case basis. ” Simon agreed and declared Frontier as his new favorite airline.
The next leg of Simon’s journey was with Spirit Airlines from Atlanta to New York, which cost him $194 for a flight just over two hours. Similar to Frontier, Simon recited negative reviews of Spirit but was once again pleasantly surprised by the service. He praised the check-in experience and the friendly crew, giving the airline a perfect score of 10 out of 10. However, he did note that Frontier’s plane and seats were of better quality.
After purchasing more refreshments, Simon concluded that his experience with both airlines was far from one-star and highly recommended them. He also noted that although Frontier had better planes and seats, Spirit’s service was equally as good. Despite the negative reviews, Simon’s journey with these two budget airlines proved to be a positive experience, and he would not hesitate to fly with them again.
