Increased Flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport in August
In the past few days, many foreign airlines have announced the resumption of flights to Tel Aviv earlier than expected, resulting in at least 120 new flights being added to Ben Gurion airport’s departures and arrivals board in August. Among the airlines resuming operations are Lufthansa Group (including Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and EuroWings), Wizz Air from Hungary, United Airlines from the US, and Aegean from Greece.
More Flights to New York and Europe
United Airlines will resume its Tel Aviv – New York/Newark flights on July 21, adding 56 weekly flights between Tel Aviv and New York. Wizz Air will gradually reintroduce services to Tel Aviv, with flights to Larnaca and Budapest starting on August 8, followed by flights to Dubai on August 15 and London on August 22. On September 1, Wizz Air will also resume flights to Vienna, Milan, Rome, Iasi, and Sofia, with more destinations being added from September 15. At first, Wizz Air will operate 10 weekly flights, increasing to 13 and 18 weekly flights by the end of August.
Aegean Returns with Flights to Greece and Cyprus
Aegean announced today that it will resume operations from next week, starting with flights to Athens, Crete, and Larnaca. Flights to Mykonos and Thessaloniki will also resume at a later date. However, tickets are not yet available on the airline’s website.
Lufthansa Group to Gradually Return in August
Lufthansa Group, which was operating 60 weekly flights to Israel in April, will gradually resume operations starting from August 1. It is still unclear to which destinations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium the airline will operate. In a pessimistic scenario, Lufthansa Group will operate a combined total of 20 flights to and from Tel Aviv next month.
Wizz Air Offers Affordable Fares
Wizz Air’s one-way fares from Tel Aviv will start at $43 to Larnaca, $77 to Budapest, $145 to Abu Dhabi, $87 to London, Luton, $65 to Vienna, $70 to Bucharest, $88 to Iasi, $65 to Rome, $65 to Milan, and $87 to Sofia.
In conclusion, with the resumption of flights by multiple foreign airlines, there will be a significant increase in the number of flights to and from Ben Gurion airport in August. This is a positive sign for the recovery of the aviation industry, which has been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
