Uzbekistan Airways Makes Historic Purchase of Boeing 787 Dreamliners
Uzbekistan Airways, the flag carrier of Uzbekistan, has announced its largest order to date with Boeing. The airline plans to acquire up to 22 787 Dreamliners, including 14 787-9 airplanes with an option for eight more. This purchase will not only modernize their widebody fleet but also support nearly 35,000 U. S. jobs.
The firm order was celebrated by Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, along with leaders from Boeing, during the United Nations General Assembly. As part of this agreement, Boeing and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Transport also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to explore opportunities for further growth in the country’s aviation industry.
Chairman of Uzbekistan Airways, Shukhrat Khudaikulov, expressed his excitement about the new contract, stating that the 787 Dreamliner family has been a crucial part of their long-haul operations. He believes that this purchase will not only strengthen the airline’s position as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia but also provide greater global connectivity for their passengers. It also reflects their commitment to sustainable growth.
Uzbekistan Airways has been the first 787 operator in Central Asia and currently utilizes their fleet of 787-8 airplanes to connect markets in Europe, Asia, and the U. S. This includes a direct flight to New York City. With the addition of the 787-9, the airline will have increased capacity and extended range, enabling them to expand their international routes to the U. S. and other long-haul destinations as the demand for international travel continues to rise.
Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen, shared their long-standing partnership with Uzbekistan Airways and their support for the airline’s growth strategy. He believes that the fuel efficiency and operational flexibility of the 787 Dreamliner will help them expand into new markets and connect more travelers to the country’s rich culture.
The 787 Dreamliner family is known for its fuel efficiency, versatility, and passenger comfort, making it an ideal choice for airlines like Uzbekistan Airways to open new routes and serve more destinations. The advanced aerodynamics, composite materials, and innovative systems of the 787 reduce fuel use by 25% compared to the airplanes they replace.
This historic purchase by Uzbekistan Airways not only benefits the airline but also strengthens their partnership with Boeing and supports the growth of the aviation industry in Central Asia. With the introduction of the 787 Dreamliners, the airline is well-positioned to meet the increasing demand for international travel and connect more people to their culture and heritage.
