United Airlines has recently announced an expansion of its international network with new nonstop flights connecting the United States to four European destinations for the summer of 2026. The airline will be launching services from its Newark/New York hub to Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; and Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This expansion follows the airline’s record-breaking growth during the summer of 2025.
This move by United Airlines aims to meet the growing demand for European travel and provide American travelers with direct access to some of the most sought-after destinations in Europe. These new routes are part of the airline’s ongoing commitment to expanding its global reach, making it the only U. S. carrier to offer nonstop service to these four European cities.
New European Destinations from Newark/New York
Starting April 30, 2026, United Airlines will begin thrice-weekly service to Split, Croatia from its Newark/New York hub. This coastal Croatian city, known for its Roman ruins and picturesque beaches along the Adriatic Sea, will now be connected to the United States for the first time by a U. S. carrier with nonstop flights.
The following day, on May 1, 2026, United will launch four weekly flights to Bari, Italy. Bari is known for its rich Mediterranean charm, delicious cuisine, and access to southern Italy’s cultural heritage. With United as the only U. S. airline serving this Italian destination directly, this new route will be a popular choice for travelers.
Expanding Presence in Scotland and Spain
United’s expansion also includes daily seasonal service to Glasgow, Scotland, beginning May 8, 2026. This new route complements the airline’s existing service to Edinburgh and further establishes it as the largest carrier between the United States and Scotland. According to the company’s announcement, United is committed to expanding its presence in Scotland.
The final addition to United’s summer 2026 lineup is Santiago de Compostela, Spain, with service beginning May 27, 2026. This UNESCO World Heritage city, famous for its stunning cathedral and serving as the terminus of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, will now receive three weekly flights. This marks the first regularly scheduled service between the United States and Santiago de Compostela.
Continued Expansion and Services to Other Destinations
In addition to these new European destinations, United Airlines plans to continue operating all nine routes introduced during its successful summer 2025 expansion. These include seasonal services to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Nuuk, Greenland; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; Madeira Island and Faro, Portugal. The airline will also continue its year-round service to Dakar, Senegal; Puerto Escondido, Mexico; and Kaohsiung.
With this expansion, United Airlines is making it easier for travelers to explore Europe and experience new cultures.
