A recent travel mishap has gained attention on TikTok after a New York woman, Alex, shared her experience of booking an American Airlines flight, only to end up on a bus ride instead. The video has since garnered over 2 million views.

Alex explained in her video that she typically departs for her travels from Scranton, Pennsylvania, but for her friend’s wedding in Colorado, she decided to stick to her routine and book a flight from there to Philadelphia through Google Flights. However, upon arriving at her gate, she noticed that the flight number and airplane icon on the board did not match her boarding pass.

It wasn’t until she asked a nearby woman about the flight’s duration that she realized her supposed flight was actually a two-and-a-half-hour bus ride from Scranton to Philadelphia. Alex admitted to being confused as Google Flights did not clearly indicate the use of a bus for the first leg of the journey, simply stating “bus” in small text under the airline name.

Upon further research, Alex found out that American Airlines partners with the Landline Company, a motor coach service that connects Philadelphia Airport with regional flight hubs. The airline notes on their website that passengers can earn AAdvantage miles on these terrestrial trips, and luggage will be transferred from the bus to the airplane.

Alex received a $75 travel credit from American Airlines as compensation for her travel mishap, but she doubts she will use it. She warns other travelers to be cautious and read the fine print when booking trips through third-party websites.

Commenters on the TikTok video expressed their sympathy for Alex’s situation, with some sharing their own experiences of similar incidents with other airlines. United Airlines, for example, offers bus rides from Newark to Allentown as part of their flight route. Others commented on the lack of clarity in the information provided by Google Flights.

In the end, Alex saw the funny side of her journey and admits that the bus was more luxurious than she expected, with amenities such as roomy seats, phone chargers, Wi-Fi, and a bathroom. However, she hopes to spare others from a similar experience by sharing her story and reminding them to be vigilant when booking flights through third-party websites.
