Heathrow Airport, the UK’s busiest hub, has once again broken records with over 7. 2 million passengers in May 2025. This marks the airport’s busiest May to date and adds to the 84 million passengers it has handled in the past 12 months.
In just a few short years, Heathrow has seen significant growth in passenger traffic, with an increasing number of people choosing to travel through this airport. New York JFK and Dubai were the first routes to reach over a million passengers in 2025, with a strong showing from popular Mediterranean destinations such as Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain, and Cyprus.
The airport also saw a surge in traffic on May 22nd, with 16 flights operated to Bilbao, Spain, due to the Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur the previous day. This is double the normal schedules for this route, showcasing the airport’s ability to handle high demand.
Heathrow prides itself on its operational efficiency and customer service, with over 95% of passengers rating their experience as either good or excellent. Additionally, 99% of security queue times were under five minutes, showing the airport’s commitment to providing a smooth and hassle-free experience for travelers.
CEO Thomas Woldbye expressed his enthusiasm for the airport’s success, stating, “Over the past year, we’ve supported 84 million journeys, and this summer, we’re ready to welcome even more. Our high ratings from passengers are a testament to why more people are choosing to travel through Heathrow.
Despite its success, Heathrow acknowledges that it is operating at full capacity and is working closely with airlines and other partners to improve its performance. This includes investing in new infrastructure such as security lanes and baggage systems to enhance the overall airport experience.
As the UK’s main hub, Heathrow plays an integral role in strengthening the country’s global connections. With ongoing efforts to improve and expand, the airport is ready to handle the increasing number of passengers and continue to be a top choice for travelers.
