Cathay Pacific Relaunches Nonstop Route Between Hong Kong and Seattle
Cathay Pacific, a leading airline based in Hong Kong, has resumed its nonstop flights between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) starting March 30. This route was previously operated from April 2019 to November 2020, but was dropped along with other routes due to challenges brought by the pandemic.
According to the airline’s CEO Ronald Lam, the decision to relaunch this Pacific Northwest route was driven by the desire to return to the Seattle market and serve the vibrant Asian American community in the area. Seattle is also home to many world-class companies such as Boeing, Amazon, and Microsoft, making it a strategic destination for Cathay Pacific.
The airline is currently operating flights four times a week, with plans to increase the frequency in the future. Passengers can choose from three cabin classes: business, premium economy, and economy. The business class seats are spacious, with direct aisle access and lie-flat beds. In-flight entertainment includes a variety of movies and TV shows, and passengers can enjoy a range of tasty meals and fine wines.
Travelers can book round-trip flights starting at $1,220 for economy, $2,684 for premium economy, and $5,350 for business class. For those looking to redeem points or miles, Cathay Pacific is a transfer partner for several loyalty programs. However, business class award availability is limited, and booking through Cathay’s own program may offer more options.
Seattle marks the ninth North American gateway for Cathay Pacific, joining other major cities such as Boston, Los Angeles, and New York. The airline plans to add more routes in the future, particularly with the introduction of its new Boeing 777-9s in 2027, which will feature a new first class product.
Passengers on the Seattle-Hong Kong route can expect a comfortable and enjoyable flight experience with Cathay Pacific. With its strategic location and partnership with Alaska Airlines, this route offers convenient connectivity for travelers in the Pacific Northwest.
