American Express (NYSE: AXP) is set to open its 30th Centurion Lounge at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) on July 16, becoming the 4th Centurion Lounge to open in Asia. This new addition marks the busiest airport in Japan and one of the busiest in the world. The lounge features locally sourced decor and artwork that celebrates Japanese culture and philosophy, a live kitchen, a buffet with Japanese and Western food options, a dedicated sweets bar, and private phone rooms equipped with a curated audio program for meditation. Located near Gate 114 in Terminal 3, the lounge also offers guests a panoramic view of the airfield.

American Express Travel President, Audrey Hendley, expressed excitement for the lounge, stating that it celebrates Japanese culture and offers a unique experience for Card Members. She also noted the significant demand for travel to Japan and the importance of showcasing the exceptional service Centurion Lounges are known for in this destination.

Yasuhiro Sudo, Senior Vice President and Japan Country Manager at American Express, also shared his enthusiasm for the opening, stating that they are thrilled to offer Japan’s first Centurion Lounge at Haneda Airport. He looks forward to providing a best-in-class experience for eligible Card Members from all over the world.

The lounge will feature a menu curated by renowned Chef Satoshi Ogino, known for his mastery of classic Japanese cuisine with an emphasis on seasonality. The kitchen will offer Japanese favorites such as sushi and ramen, as well as a buffet serving both local and global cuisine. A full bar will offer premium wine, locally inspired cocktails, and a selection of Japanese beers, sake, and shochu. A dedicated sweets bar will also be available, featuring traditional Japanese Wagashi sweets and a rotating menu of additional treats.

The lounge’s design, created by American Express’ in-house creative agency, is inspired by Japanese culture and the color “Japan Blue,” which represents tranquility and stability. The lounge features natural materials and textures, including slatted wood, stone, and subtle walnut and black ash accents. Local artists were commissioned to create custom artwork for the lounge, including a mural by Shu Kuroki and a traditional Japanese Wajima Nuri lacquerware installation by Miho Yokoyama.

The lounge offers several areas for travelers to work, relax, and recharge before their flights. Private phone rooms are available for phone calls or meditation, providing functionality and tranquility with acoustical fabric panels and traditional Japanese artwork. Comfortable seating options include armchairs, high tops, dining banquettes, cozy couches, and a private room with seating for families and small groups. The lounge also features a VIP area for Centurion Members, with elevated furnishings, a private beverage station, and a curated display of Japanese artwork and photography.
