United Airlines Flight 169 Makes Contact with Light Pole and Truck
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 p. m. on Sunday as the United Airlines flight was making its final approach into Newark Airport. According to United, the plane hit a light pole during its descent. Dashcam footage from inside the delivery truck captured the harrowing scene as the undercarriage and landing tire of the plane made contact with the truck. United Airlines and Port Authority Assess Damage
In response to the incident, United Airlines stated that its maintenance crew was assessing the aircraft. The Port Authority police also reported minor damage. “We will conduct a rigorous flight safety investigation into the incident and our crew has been removed from service as part of the process,” United said in a statement.
FAA and NTSB Launch Investigations
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched investigations into the incident. An NTSB investigator is expected to arrive in Newark on Monday. “The agency has directed United Airlines to secure and provide both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder to support the investigation. A preliminary report outlining the facts and circumstances of the event is expected within 30 days,” NTSB told Fox Business.
Flight Safety in Question
This incident has raised concerns about flight safety and the need for further investigation into the cause of the collision. While everyone on board the United Airlines flight was unharmed, the potential for serious injuries or even fatalities cannot be ignored. The FAA and NTSB will continue to investigate and provide updates on the incident.
