Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is set to expand its services and strengthen connectivity between Riga, Latvia and Copenhagen, Denmark. Starting March 8, 2026, the airline will offer three daily flights on the Riga-Copenhagen route, providing passengers with increased frequency and capacity for their travels. This move will enhance Riga Airport’s connectivity with Copenhagen Airport (CPH), one of the leading aviation hubs in Northern Europe, and open up more opportunities for long-haul travel, including to the United States.

Copenhagen has always been a popular destination for Riga Airport, and with SAS joining the route, there will be a significant increase in capacity and competition. This will benefit passengers by offering them more flexibility in planning their journeys and convenient onward connections to long-haul flights operated by SAS and other airlines.

According to Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board of Riga Airport, the additional flights to Copenhagen will provide even better connectivity for passengers and a wider range of options for both business and leisure travelers. This expansion will strengthen Riga Airport’s position as the Baltic region’s aviation gateway, and competition on the route will ultimately benefit passengers with more flights, flexible schedules, and competitive fares.

The demand for connections to the United States from Riga has been consistently high. With the added services to Copenhagen, which is known for its extensive transatlantic network, passengers from the Baltic region will have improved one-stop access to popular US destinations such as New York, Washington, Boston, and other major cities.

SAS’s return to Riga Airport with direct flights to Copenhagen marks a new chapter in the airline’s presence in Latvia. While SAS first started its scheduled services to Riga in 1990, it discontinued them in 2008. However, with the start of the 2026 summer season, the airline will resume its services, further expanding Riga Airport’s route network and providing improved access to global markets for Latvian businesses and travelers.
