American Airlines to Increase International Flights from New York this Summer

American Airlines, part of the Oneworld alliance, will be expanding its international offerings from New York this summer. According to schedule data from aviation analytics firm Cirium and confirmed by an American spokesperson, daily service will be added from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) on August 5th. Additionally, thrice-weekly service will be added to Calgary International Airport (YYC) on August 6th. Both routes will operate seasonally until October.

The new flights to YQB will be operated using a 76-seat Embraer E175, while the flights to YYC will use a 172-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8. These new routes are part of American’s gradual expansion into Canada. Since 2024, the airline has connected YYC to both Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Additionally, YQB has been linked with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

In 2025, American announced a new partnership with Canada’s Porter Airlines that includes a codeshare and loyalty tie-up for AAdvantage members. Under this pact, Porter has also added flights to American’s hubs. By the end of February, new flights will be offered from Ottawa International Airport (YOW) to Miami International Airport (MIA) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to PHX will also be added.

American will be competing with WestJet on the JFK-YYC route, while Air Canada serves the market from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). United Airlines also offers flights on the EWR-YQB route, according to Cirium data.

In other news, American recently unveiled the TPG Daily Newsletter, which is a daily newsletter that provides breaking news, in-depth guides, and exclusive deals to over 700,000 readers. This newsletter is a great way for readers to stay up-to-date on the latest news and offers from TPG’s experts.
